When you sign a publishing contract, your editor and/or publicist will send you an Author Questionnaire. This is an important document that you should take very seriously. The answers to the questions asked will give your publisher full details about you, your book, and what you’re willing to do to promote the title.
If you’re still pitching your book to agents and publishers, now is an ideal time to generate answers to a generic author questionnaire. It will be good practice for when you have to do the real thing, and you may even be able to incorporate some of the verbiage you come up with into your book proposal and cover letters. The more you describe your book in writing, the more targeted your marketing spiel will become.
